Job Summary:
The Field Network Technician is part of the Network Engineering & Operations team, responsible for the implementation, maintenance, management, and troubleshooting of the i3 Broadband network infrastructure. This role collaborates with the team to ensure a highly available network that aligns with business goals and service level agreements (SLAs).
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Install and configure a variety of network devices and services, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and Passive Optical Network (PON) access equipment.
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades to facilitate network expansion.
- Provide Level 2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues.
- Follow established Method of Procedure (MOP) documents.
- Adhere to configuration and change management policies to ensure changes to the network infrastructure are made with proper awareness, approval, and success.
- Collaborate with vendors and other Network Engineering & Operations personnel to resolve problems.
- Log into and audit network devices, ensuring documentation accurately reflects the current state of the network.
- Implement engineering guidelines for performance, reliability, security, and scalability by performing installation, testing, and acceptance of network hardware and services.
- Communicate project status clearly and proactively to engineering support staff, project management, and other relevant teams.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours field support during network maintenance and service interruptions.
- Engage in continuous training on products and services.
- Use small hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
- Work with alarms, high-voltage electricity, and color-coded wiring.

- Ability to quickly adapt to and understand new processes and technologies.
- Solid understanding of networking protocols.
- Proven proficiency in core technician skill sets.
- Possession of certifications and licenses as required by state and local regulations.
- Availability to work required shifts and overtime as needed.
- High school diploma; post-secondary education is a plus.
- Valid state driver s license with a clean driving record.
- 5+ years of experience in service installation and repair within a multi-service provider or telecommunications environment.
- Ability to carry and operate tools and equipment.
- Sufficient ability to distinguish various wire colors.
- Capability to frequently bend, stoop, and crawl.
- Ability to climb ladders or utility poles and work at heights.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and varied environments, including wet or dry locations.
- Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods and work on a computer for up to 8 hours per day.
- Proficiency in operating personal computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment.
