The Senior Data Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing robust data architecture solutions to support our data management and analytics initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, database design, and data modeling, with experience in healthcare data management and analytics.
- Data Architecture Design: Design and develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance data architecture solutions to support the organization's data management and analytics needs. Define data architecture standards, best practices, and guidelines to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in data management processes.
- Database Design and Optimization: Design and implement database schemas, tables, views, and indexes to support efficient data storage, retrieval, and analysis.
- Data Modeling and Metadata Management: Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models and dataflow diagrams to represent the organization's data assets and relationships. Develop metadata management, glossary and cataloging processes to capture and maintain metadata definitions, lineage, and usage information for data assets.
- Data Integration and ETL: Design and implement data integration solutions to consolidate and integrate data from disparate sources, including electronic health records (EHR), clinical systems, research databases, and external sources. Consult with Data Engineers to guide development of ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines.
- Data Governance and Security: Define data governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of healthcare data assets. Implement data security controls and access management\mechanisms to protect sensitive healthcare information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and develop solutions that meet organizational needs. Mentor junior members of the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.
- Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data architecture, data management and ETL processes.
- Look for opportunities to optimize the team s processes and workflows.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or related field is required with advanced degree highly preferred.
- 10+ of relevant experience in design and implementation of data models for enterprise data warehouse, data lake and data science initiatives.
- Experience leading projects involving data warehousing, data modeling, and data security.
- Experience working in highly collaborative cross-functional teams and delivering solutions through both waterfall and agile project delivery.
- Proficient in one or more programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Proficiency in the design and implementation of modern data architectures and concepts such as cloud services (Azure/AWS) and modern data warehouse tools such as Databricks.
- Experience with data engineering tools such as Informatica PowerCenter / IICS and data modeling tools.
- Understanding of entity-relationship modeling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniques.
- Able to think strategically and relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs.
- Able to assess traditional and modern data architecture components and overall solution design based on business needs.
- Experience with business intelligence tools and technologies such as Power BI, and Tableau.
- Passionate about promoting a data driven culture while operating with the highest integrity and ensuring responsible and ethical data usage.
Additional Details
- Subject Matter Expertise Experience in relational database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL). Proficiency in data modeling tools and techniques (e.g., ERwin, PowerDesigner, Data Vault).
- Experience with data integration technologies (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Databricks) and ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, DataStage). Knowledge of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR). Strong understanding of stakeholder needs. Applies knowledge to solve problems and contribute ideas to team strategy.
