Agile Product Management Advisor
W-2 Position Only (No Staffing Agencies or Contractors)
Location: Onsite in Morris Plains, NJ
Core Hours: 9 AM - 5 PM EST, Monday to Friday
The Agile Product Management Advisor serves as the internal voice of the customer. This role defines system features and participates in validation. The advisor is responsible for managing the scope of work for the Agile Release Train (ART), as well as the vision and roadmap for the ART. The individual must stay informed about other work within the Portfolio to help teams proactively manage risks and dependencies.
This role provides expert leadership on complex projects, exercising creativity, foresight, and judgment in conceiving, planning, and delivering initiatives. The advisor uses deep professional knowledge to advise functional leaders, focusing on thought leadership while working on broader projects that require an understanding of the wider business. Recognized internally as a subject matter expert, this role is instrumental in shaping the product vision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively understand the business case, the reasons for requested changes, and the desired future state.
- Focus on continuous learning and adopt a probe and learn approach for self-improvement.
- Leverage knowledge of the product s value stream and system interactions to identify when new features or product changes are needed to achieve business value.
- Break down complex problems and asks into well-rounded requirements (both functional and non-functional).
- Communicate stakeholder goals and expected outcomes to the engineering/solution architect/principal engineering teams, and write definition-of-ready user stories, incorporating architectural changes recommended by engineering.
- Facilitate product backlog grooming sessions to ensure high-impact work is delivered first.
- Maintain the product s technical roadmap and advocate for appropriate prioritization of non-functional work.
- Build strong relationships with business and technology partners to establish trust with stakeholders.
- Own a defined capability or technical product area, including product value, cost of ownership, and non-functional requirements (e.g., reliability, scalability, usability, security, performance).
- Cultivate trusted relationships with business, BAT, and technology partners to foster teamwork and a shared understanding of the product vision, goals, and priorities.
- Lead sprint planning, story refinement, and feature elaboration sessions with business and technology stakeholders.
- Participate in planning sessions to create cohesive, iterative plans that support the completion of MVPs and epics in coordination with other teams.
- Proactively resolve upstream dependencies and address conflicts across teams.
- Participate in team standups and retrospectives, facilitating dialogue with stakeholders during sprint reviews and product demos.
- Monitor and communicate technical product health metrics and KPIs, advocating for product improvements with business and technology partners.
- Manage team capacity allocation to ensure appropriate levels are used for product health improvements and the reduction of technical debt (e.g., integration and deployment of tooling, test automation).
- Utilize agility tools (e.g., Jira) and implement strategies to optimize team performance and achieve departmental objectives (e.g., manage story aging, manage WIP, epic size/throughput).
Skills and Experience:
- 6-8 years of relevant experience in business analysis, technology development, or product management.
- Experience in the pharmacy industry is preferred.
- Experience working in an Agile environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Agile tools (Jira, Rally), and Business Process Modeling tools.
- Strong business analysis skills, from issue identification to proposing solutions.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrated initiative with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong technical, analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to influence and build strong relationships across the organization.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Education:
- Bachelor s degree or equivalent work experience.
