Compensation: $150,000 - 180,000 + bonus

We’re working with a dynamic, private-equity-backed renewable energy company seeking a Director of Development to manage and scale a growing portfolio of decarbonization projects across commercial and industrial real estate. This is a unique opportunity for a development leader to help drive the company’s transition from a startup to a more established organization, creating foundational processes, building structure, and fostering a strong team culture.

Position Overview:

In this role, the Director will lead the development of renewable energy assets—including solar, battery storage, CHP, and EV infrastructure—while working closely with real estate partners to help meet their sustainability goals. You will work across teams and with external stakeholders to manage projects from early development through construction. This role is ideal for a collaborative leader who thrives in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment and is excited about scaling an organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with sales, account management, finance, engineering, and project management to develop renewable energy solutions tailored to each client’s needs, such as solar PV, battery storage, and energy management systems.
  • Process Development and Documentation: Establish and document streamlined processes for project development and execution to support the company’s transition to an established industry leader.
  • Team Leadership and Growth: Recruit, hire, train, and mentor a high-performing development team, building a strong, growth-oriented culture.
  • Project Execution: Ensure all project permits, incentives, and state registrations are secured, managing all pre-construction requirements to ensure smooth project progression.
  • Coordination and Communication: Oversee project plans, timelines, and budgets from early development phases through Notice to Proceed (NTP), aligning internal teams, partners, and contractors.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain relationships with internal teams, real estate clients, third-party providers, and regulatory bodies to ensure streamlined development and regulatory compliance.
  • Performance Tracking: Work with asset management to create KPIs and reporting standards to monitor asset performance for clients, internal teams, and stakeholders.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience in Renewable Development: At least 5 years of experience in renewable energy project development, ideally with expertise in solar PV, battery storage, and other sustainable energy solutions.
  • End-to-End Project Knowledge: Strong understanding of project lifecycles from origination to operations, with experience navigating legal, permitting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Scaling Experience: Demonstrated experience in building and implementing structured processes within a high-growth or startup environment.
  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Proven ability to build, train, and mentor high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative and growth-focused work environment.
  • Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture and drive solutions that consider multiple stakeholder perspectives and financial objectives.
  • Background in Energy Management: Experience in energy efficiency, load management, or corporate finance underwriting is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive Pay: Salary with performance-based bonuses and eligibility for comprehensive benefits.
  • Flexible Work Options: Located in the North East or Boulder, CO, with remote options considered.
  • Growth Opportunity: Join a team that’s pioneering integrated, portfolio-wide decarbonization solutions in a supportive, growth-focused environment.
