Currently Kellton Tech is looking for talented resources for one of our listed client. Below are the position details:

Position: Category Manager Travel and Indirect
Type: Temporary (full-time hours EST) - Covering leave through April
Location: Locals - Reston, VA, 20194.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Category Manager to temporarily support our procurement team, primarily focusing on travel and entertainment spend. This role requires a deep understanding of enterprise-level travel category management, including strategic sourcing, vendor relationship management, and contracting expertise. Secondary responsibilities include indirect procurement support for Finance. Experience with Workday or Concur is preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Drive Value with Business Partnerships (30%)
  • Provide dedicated procurement support for internal stakeholders, working within the Procurement organization.
  • Partner with business unit stakeholders to select vendors, coordinate RFI/RFP/RFQ processes, and assess opportunities for cost savings.
  • Leverage industry insights, trends, and data to prepare for vendor selection and negotiation.
  1. Vendor Management and Contract Execution (50%)
  • Lead vendor negotiations to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms, with a focus on meeting spaces, hotels, audio-visual services, catering, and other indirect categories.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Governance, Risk & Compliance teams, and other units for contract review and negotiation.
  • Proactively manage contingencies and dependencies, ensuring seamless planning and problem-solving during high-demand periods.
  • Own and manage vendor relationships, addressing performance issues and facilitating improvements where needed.
  1. Enhance Support and Performance (20%)
  • Use P2P tools like Workday, Concur, and Strategic Sourcing to optimize operational processes, from project intake to invoice approvals.
  • Continuously improve processes to add value for internal clients, with a focus on KPIs aligned with constituent needs.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of procurement experience, with a strong focus on contractual evaluation and negotiation in travel, events, and indirect spend categories.
  • Expertise in working with hotels, airlines, catering, travel management companies, and finance consulting.
  • Proven analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating multi-year contracts and large-scale event procurement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building positive relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work autonomously with initiative and strategic foresight.
  • Experience with contract management and P2P systems; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor s degree in business, management, finance, supply chain, or related field preferred.
