The incumbent is a member of the Regional Facilities Department and provides expert technical and professional assistance in the areas of planning, design, construction, repair and improvement at correctional facilities regionally for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Facilities vary from small prison camps with a minimum of requirements to large penitentiaries with installations equivalent to those of a small city, with features that are peculiar to and necessary for security and control of the prison population.
Incumbent serves as an Architect in one of six BOP regional offices and is responsible to employ a wide range of managerial, technical and administrative abilities in carrying out assigned duties. A majority of the incumbent's time is devoted to the Building and Facilities (B&F) program within the region. Projects may vary from the renovation of existing facilities to construction of new buildings such as housing units, prison industries buildings, medical facilities or administrative facilities. He/she is responsible for visualizing, suggesting and working out solutions to design and operational problems and the selection of practical means to accomplish desired objectives.
