Job Duties
As an Avionics Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Electrical Systems Development: Design, build, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical systems for spacecraft and testing equipment.
- Subsystem Integration: Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate various subsystems into fully functioning vehicles.
- Supplier Management: Serve as the primary contact for suppliers, overseeing the procurement and integration of electrical components and hardware.
- Lifecycle Ownership: Take ownership of electrical systems throughout their lifecyclefrom design and development to manufacturing, launch, and on-orbit operations.
- Technical Leadership: Lead the development and testing of electronics for critical vehicle functions, ensuring the safety and reliability of systems during high-stakes operations.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve complex technical issues that may arise during testing or in-orbit operations.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
- Embedded Systems Experience: Hands-on experience working with embedded systems, printed circuit boards, and electronics, including both off-the-shelf and custom solutions.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in C, C++, Python, or similar programming languages for hardware integration.
- Circuit Board Design: Experience designing and implementing circuit boards, with a strong understanding of microcontrollers and serial communication protocols.
- Test Equipment Proficiency: Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on delivering high-quality results on time.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to independently resolve complex technical issues.
Preferred Experience
The following experience is highly desirable:
- Advanced Degree: A masters or PhD in a relevant engineering or physics field.
- Space Systems Experience: At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with space systems and technologies.
- High-Voltage Expertise: Knowledge of high-voltage systems and safety practices for aerospace applications.
- FPGA & Microprocessor Design: Experience designing and implementing FPGAs, microprocessors, and power electronics.
- PCB Design Tools: Proficiency with design tools such as Eagle, Altium Designer, or SPICE-based simulation software.
Security Clearance:
- Must be eligible for a U.S. Secret security clearance
Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 / year
