As a Budget Analyst, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Participating in the formulation of guidance for the preparation of past, current, and budget year estimates of assigned organizations in accordance with OMB policies. Preparing and reviewing budget estimates through analysis of funding requests for assigned organizations ensuring compliance with policies and guidance. Assures budget data submitted is adequate, complete, and accurate. Compiles clear and accurate narrative and statistical material for use in resource justifications presented in the budget to support strategic goals.
  • Participating in all areas of funds control, particularly to ensure that restrictions on the use of funds are not violated. Distributing and monitoring the execution of funding using established automated systems and applications; recommends and makes operating plan adjustments when required; and ensures that funds are allocated and distributed properly and effectively to support program objectives and that program limits are not exceeded.
  • Participating in a variety of routine budget analysis assignments that require the application of well-established budget principles, theories, and concepts of budget forecasting using a range of tools. Identifies and analyzes trends in obligations and expenditures for assigned organizations. Compiling financial data and preparing analytical reports, charts, summaries, and presentations to interpret historical trends, project future budgets and support budget estimates to provide valuable budget information for management decision making.
  • Assisting in the coordination, presentation, and communication of budget requirements and priorities to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Commission administration, management, and program office customers. Serving as functional point of contact for day-to-day budget processes.
