  • Advise unit personnel on ways to control or eliminate unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Direction of a program segment with equipment and safety budget.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from employees, refers group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher-level supervisor or manager; Serves as the proposing official but approving authority is vested with their supervisor.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees, provide or arrange for needed development and training.
  • Provide and/or arrange for required training. Refer decisions on training that is non-routine, costly, or controversial to a higher supervisor.
  • Approve expenses like within-grade increases. Finds ways to improve production or increase quality of work directed.
  • Recommends awards or bonuses for nonsupervisory personnel and changes in position classification, subject to approval by higher level officials, supervisors, or others.
  • Develop performance standards following HR procedures.
  • Plan a full range of Services from a technical and administrative point of view. Includes: Maintain proper maintenance and functioning of imaging equipment. Assure safety precautions are used to reduce radiation and chemical exposures. Maintain liaison with hospital departments, direct patient care and administration to assure smooth and cooperative functioning of the patient-care team. Serve as an intermediary between the Radiologist and the technologists with quality control, protocol development and implementation; maintains unit needs replenished. Assure proficiency of radiologic technologists with imaging equipment.
  • Performs full scope of diagnostic XR, CT and Fluoroscopy exams as required by the service unit involving clinical radiology applicable to a wide range of duties in one or more specialty areas or functions.
  • Assure adequate safeguards are maintained, to recognize when changes of equipment or procedures might result in increased exposure, and to adopt methods to prevent such exposure.
  • Understands the operation of X-ray equipment, monitors the equipment for proper operation, makes changes to standard procedures to compensate for equipment aging, and determine when maintenance or repair is needed.
  • Use of basic nursing practices related to radiography such as emergency cardiac arrest procedures and use of oxygen to assist with breathing difficulties.
