The Role

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the safety policies and procedures for all trucking operations, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, including FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and other industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of vehicles, facilities, and operational practices to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring thorough analysis and reporting to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop and conduct safety training programs for drivers, dispatchers, and other employees, promoting a proactive approach to safety awareness and accident prevention.
  • Track and report safety performance metrics, including accident rates, near-miss incidents, and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to integrate safety initiatives into all aspects of operations.
  • Assist in the development and execution of a driver safety incentive program to encourage safe driving behaviors.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to trucking safety.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and support to drivers and staff to ensure safety protocols are consistently followed

Ideal Profile

  • At least 5 years of experience in trucking safety management, with a strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
  • Proven experience in implementing safety programs, training initiatives, and risk management strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess data and make informed decisions to improve safety performance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and motivate employees at all levels.
  • Ability to lead by example and foster a culture of safety and accountability across the organization.
  • Certification in safety management or related fields (e.g., CSP, SMS, or CDLP) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
