YOUR ROLE AT MIRATERRA
Miraterra is tackling one of the planet's most critical challenges soil health. The rapid loss of topsoil is diminishing our ability to sequester carbon and sustainably feed a growing population. Fortunately, Miraterra brings together some of the world's brightest minds from various fields to address this urgent issue. Our multi-disciplinary teams have spent the last two years developing groundbreaking technologies that will revolutionize soil measurement and insights.
As the Director of Hardware Engineering, you will drive our product development efforts, leading the charge in creating innovative solutions that push the boundaries of what's possible in soil health technology. Your expertise in product design and engineering, with a strong emphasis on systems architecture, user-centered design, and advanced sensing technologies, will be instrumental in driving our mission forward.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Hardware Engineering will collaborate with a diverse and talented team across various functions, including Business Development, Finance, Software & UX, Product Management, Data Science, and Business Operations.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL
- Manage our Product Development, which is Mechanical, Electrical Engineering and firmware in designing, prototyping, and manufacturing innovative hardware systems.
- Drive the development of a next-generation environmental monitoring platform.
- Oversee product designs that integrate form and function seamlessly.
- Support R&D in advanced sensing and imaging technologies.
- Improve design practices focused on human factors and user experience.
- Manage product development from concept to volume manufacturing, ensuring scalability.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive hardware interfaces.
- Direct the development of optical systems for imaging and non-imaging applications.
- Inspire, mentor and develop an incredible team.
- Build strong relationships across the organization and with external partners.
- Contribute to leadership, shaping company culture and strategy while engaging with investors and the Board.
WE RE LOOKING FOR
- Master s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Design Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years in hardware engineering and product design, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
- Proven success in obtaining regulatory certifications for complex products.
- Strong background in industrial design, systems engineering, and UX/UI principles.
- Experience with environmental monitoring technologies or consumer electronics.
- Proficiency in CAD-PLM systems, rapid prototyping, and design for manufacturing.
- Knowledge of optical systems design and advanced sensing technologies.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
WE VALUE, BUT DON T REQUIRE
- Experience in designing products for high-volume manufacturing with passion for NPI, quality and reliability.
- Background in integrating software and hardware for cohesive user experiences.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in environmental science or consumer electronics.
- Understanding of sustainable design principles and practices.

Based on-site in Vancouver, B.C (this role is not eligible for remote work)
