This position is located within the OALJ. When the Commission sets contested proceedings for hearing and/or settlement proceedings, OALJ is charged with facilitating a negotiated resolution by settlement, or if settlement is not possible, developing an evidentiary record and applying the governing law and precedent in rendering an initial decision for consideration by the Commission. The position is eligible for limited telework, but work is primarily completed onsite.

Must be a member in good standing of the Bar of any state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or any territorial court under the Constitution.

As a Supervisory Attorney, some of your typical work assignments may be the following:

  • Serves as the first-level supervisor for the OALJ attorneys, law clerks, and legal interns, under the direction of the Chief Judge by providing oral and written guidance.
  • Performs legal research and analysis to advise and support the Chief Judge and Deputy Chief Judge on a wide range of legal, policy, management, and administrative matters.
  • Provides legal counsel and supports Administrative Law Judges with their hearing and settlement proceedings by applying previous energy litigation experience, including experience working on matters before administrative agencies.
  • Trains, supports, and serves as a resource for OALJ’s staff of attorneys, law clerks, and legal interns using knowledge of energy industry laws and regulations.
