The OR Assistant Nurse Manager provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider

Major duties/ functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates leadership and mastery of practice in delivering efficient, comprehensive, and continuous patient-driven holistic care through active collaboration, communication, and coordination of resources
  • Considers all characteristics of the individual, including gender and role identification, age, life stage, state of health, race, culture, socio-economic status, values and beliefs in order to assist each patient with the improvement of his/her health status to the maximum potential.
  • Utilizes core elements of performance including knowledge and active participation in unit/service level quality improvement processes, such as the customer service program.
  • Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient throughput and movement through the facility.
  • Demonstrates performance and leadership and has designated second-line supervisory authority, responsibility, and accountability for the operations of his/her department, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely and safe patient flow which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for sound fiscal and human resource management, effective management of administrative and clinical issues, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, and employee relations.
  • Monitors the use and maintenance of equipment, supply and use of stock and supplies, as well as environmental conditions and services.
  • Establishes relevant reporting priorities as applicable to the role and establishes priorities for unit-based quality/performance improvement activities, while promoting a culture of comprising evidence-based practices.
  • Involved in the evaluation, redesign, and implementation of unit-based/facility-wide/health service policies and protocols when applicable.
  • Collaborates with leadership teams as it pertains to appropriate management of Full Time Employee Equivalent, resource requests, developing and implementing strategies to recruit and retain an effective workforce, and disseminating educational and noneducational information to all personnel
  • Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other members of the multi-disciplinary team as a means of providing high-quality, cost effective, and customer focused health care.
  • Responsible for ensuring suitable and timely training, counseling, scheduling of the unit, coaching staff, effectively manages employee conduct and performance issues, and completes recurrent reports in a timely manner.
  • Participates in service and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing standards of practice and patient care, while identifying educational needs to staff and ensuring that those needs are aptly addressed.
  • Has an integral role in supporting and facilitating student nurses' clinical experiences as well as orienting new Assistant Nurse Managers.
  • Works in partnership with union organizations and adheres to Equal Employment Opportunities.
  • Is part of the Nursing Service leadership team, specifically Perioperative Service, and cross-covers for other assistant nurse managers and/or supervisors as designated, in one another's absence
