Position Overview
As a Senior Digital Electronics Design Engineer, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to design, develop, and verify high-reliability digital electronics for various applications, including processor boards, FPGA and SOC boards, memory applications (such as DDR), and high-speed I/O. As a senior member of the Harsh Environments Electronics Group, you will influence digital hardware architectures and lead electronics development activities, applying sound engineering and project management principles.
Key Responsibilities
Translate project and system requirements into well-defined hardware architectures in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Design and complete instruments, including microprocessors, power, and analog components.
Innovatively solve issues, drive project completion to schedule, and collaborate with other technical contributors.
Build and test prototypes, debug, and prepare documentation for manufacturing and support.
Research and enable innovative solutions for cutting-edge designs.
Engage with other engineers and partners to develop reliable, cost-effective solutions for products.
Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction, contribute to requirements development, propose ways forward, and adapt to changes in requirements.
Independently perform complex electronic architectures and designs.
Provide insight and suggest design modifications based on simulation results.
Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
Manage tasks with multiple engineers and effectively communicate status to project leadership and customers.
Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide constructive feedback.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in electronic design, microprocessor, or embedded computing.
Understanding of design and general computer architecture.
Ability to write detailed design specifications.
Computer programming and coding abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong mathematical skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks.
Thorough understanding of engineering theories and procedures.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's Degree is preferred.
5-7 years of experience in Electronic or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Additional Qualifications
Experience with and knowledge of trade space for radiation-hardened parts.
Schematic capture and board layout experience.
Experience integrating and debugging embedded systems.
Ability to perform circuit simulation using HyperLynx and ANSYS.
Experience with Mentor Graphics PCB design flow preferred.
Experience with Xilinx or Microchip FPGA/SOC design flow desired.
Experience in designing for harsh environments as per common commercial and military standards (e.g., RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-810) is highly desired.
Other Requirements
Must be local to the Cambridge office and able to support flexible in-office work. Full-time remote employees will not be considered for this role.
Active security clearance is strongly preferred. Strong candidates without an active clearance must be able to obtain a secret clearance upon starting this role.
