GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under general supervision of the Manager of Audio-Visual Services, the Classroom Technology Assistant provides technical expertise and unique solutions with audio-visual related technology to UMass Chan Medical School classes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Advise, train, and provide in-room and remote technical support to faculty, staff, students, and guest lecturers using audio-visual equipment.
  • Making sure course content is displayed and shared correctly in real time (in-person or remote).
  • Setting up microphones for presenters.
  • Testing and playback of videos.
  • Field Q&A as applicable. Vocally prompting faculty to respond to chat and questions.
  • Proficient with Zoom/Teams/Webex.
  • Verifying the equipment in room is functioning as needed for classes.
  • Provides guidance and recommend solutions based on technology requirements and limitations.
  • Design, develop, and update training materials/documentation.
  • Develop and conduct training workshops for class related audio-visual related use cases.
  • Adept organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to ensure effective delivery of curriculum for learners.
  • First point of contact to troubleshoot. Escalate as needed.
  • Evaluate technology trends inside and outside of the University.
  • Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate Degree in Audio-Visual, Communications, Media, or equivalent years of experience in a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate experience with various hardware and software video conferencing platforms.
  • Demonstrate understanding of signal flow, distributed audio/video, and multi-room systems.
  • Skilled with Windows, Mac, and MS Office environments.
  • Able to work under pressure, independently, and within a team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to work extended hours when required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Solid interpersonal skills: ability to work well with people, their expertise, and organizational relationships.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • CTS Certification
  • Crestron Digital Media Certification - DMC-E
  • Working knowledge of Crestron. Biamp, ClearOne, Extron, Shure, Cisco codecs and other audio-visual related equipment.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology platforms including: Echo 360 and TopHat.
