General summary/purpose:

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall implementation, coordination, and status reporting of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) research program directed by Dr. Steven Keller and Dr. Sung-Min Cho. The Project Manager will support Dr. Keller and Dr. Cho in strategic planning of the overall program and will lead coordination between the Johns Hopkins research team and the multiple subcontract research sites. The Project Manager is responsible for tracking overall project progress and working to ensure the team delivers on milestones as detailed in the project proposal. The Project Manager will prepare and submit monthly project reports to DARPA and will supervise communication and coordination with the government project sponsor.

DARPA is an agency within the US Department of Defense that seeks to produce transformational innovation. Dr. Keller and Dr. Cho have been awarded a substantial DARPA contract to develop a novel life support platform. This project will combine advanced engineering and the leading edge of clinical medicine to produce a new means of supporting trauma patients. The project team is a unique academic-industry partnership lead by Johns Hopkins University that is comprised of multiple research academic institutions and a leading medical device company. The environment created by this partnership is highly dynamic and will provide unique opportunities for engaging leaders in medicine and technology from across government, academia, and industry. The broader goal of this project is to define the future of critical care medicine and create new life support technology to improve survival for patients suffering from life-threatening organ failure. The Project Manager role will have a vital leadership role within the project and will work closely with Dr. Keller and Dr. Cho on all facets of the program. The Project Manager will have numerous responsibilities and opportunities to expand on existing skills and to develop new expertise across multiple domains and will be positioned for future leadership roles on completion of this work.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

· Provide overall project management supervision including development of project plans for the specific research themes of the overall project proposal

· Coordinate research and supervise progress across all research subaward sites

· Develop agendas and lead internal project meetings inclusive of meetings between all project sites and group meetings for individual research themes

· Coordinate and lead meetings with government research sponsor and coordinate interaction with government project evaluators

· Assume role as a team member and technical resource and process facilitator on projects

· Provide project analysis as requested and contribute ideas and proposals

· Create, track, and manage timelines and budgets for implementation of projects and track overall project spending

· Provide project status and summary recommendations and final impact to government sponsor

· Manage regulatory compliance within the project team, including assisting with generation of initial study submissions and overseeing approval process.

· Accountable for grant administration, and regulatory compliance.

· Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, finance, systems operations, healthcare administration, or related field required. Minimum of five years related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula. A working knowledge of computers, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word is required.

Demonstrated experience working with a variety of people at all levels of an organization. Must be self-motivated and comfortable working independently, as a team leader and as a team member. Must demonstrate relevant experience in motivating people who may or may not be direct reports to work as a team in harmony with the goals of the project and the organization. Project management, Lean Sigma or other operational improvement methodologies highly preferred.

Preferred qualifications:

Related Master's degree preferred. Demonstrated project management and operational experience in a clinical or healthcare environment is preferred.
