Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the adoption, architecture and implementation of automations leveraging AI and Generative AI technologies and methods. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with the recently formed enterprise automation office, known as the Automation Hub, and oversee the architecture and solutioning for AI-powered automation solutions ensuring they meet performance, quality and security standards. They will be responsible for building expertise and training and provide mentorship for employees as the use of AI automation technologies is expanded throughout Mayo Clinic. They will provide technology leadership and work closely with other IT areas, including the Office of Information Security, to define policies and standards for utilization.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement complex automations, virtual agents, and chatbots utilizing AI and GenAI technologies to automate business processes for various departments. Technologies may include Microsoft Copilot Studio, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Power Automate, UiPath and other relevant automation and AI/GenAI technologies.
  • Lead and mentor engineers and business areas focused on building efficient and scalable automation solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into effective automation solutions.
  • Develop and maintain best practices for automation development and governance for new technologies.
  • Work with Mayo Clinic Office of Information Security (OIS) to ensure security policies and practices are followed as new AI technologies are integrated to the Mayo Clinic ecosystem
  • Assist with establishing standards and best practices.
  • Stay up to date on the latest advancements in automation technologies and tools.
  • Provide ongoing support and training to departmental users on automation solutions.

This is a full time remote position. Incumbent must live within the United States. Mayo Clinic will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position including F1 OPT STEM.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this position include: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with 5 years of experience as noted below; OR an Associate's degree in Computer/Science/Engineering or related field with 7 years of experience.

Have in-depth knowledge of software engineering with experience coding applications or services in a high-level language (C, C++, Golang, Java, C# etc.) and a basic knowledge of related fields.
Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills. Possesses strong technical aptitude for designing and implementing software solutions. Experience with modern application development frameworks
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. Deep hands-on technical expertise, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with Agile software development techniques.

Preferred Qualification:
  • At least 5 years of experience in automation architecture and design.
  • Experience and excellent understanding of Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Bot Service, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Computer Vision, Intelligent Document Understanding and other Gen AI tools.
  • Experience with architecture and design of chatbots and virtual agents.
  • Experience with Python and other AI programming languages.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of LLMs and LLM-based solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of business process automation, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technologies, low-code/no-code technologies, and scripting technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Automation, UiPath or other Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technologies strongly preferred.
  • Experience in designing and architecting automation solutions for the healthcare industry will be given strong consideration
  • Experience in integrating automation solutions with various systems and applications using APIs, web services, databases, etc.
  • Experience working across multiple cloud and hybrid cloud environments including Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience in documenting and maintaining the automation architecture, design, and code.
  • Experience in training and mentoring automation developers, engineers and testers on the best practices and standards of automation development.
  • Experience with Scrum and Agile software development.
  • Evidence of strong analytical skills, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Evidence of strong communication, meeting management, and organizational skills and ability to adjust the message as appropriate to the audiences of varying technical capabilities.
