At Glyphic Biotechnologies, we plan to create the protein revolution for which scientists and researchers have been waiting. We are developing a massively parallel, single-molecule protein sequencing platform that will transform proteomics and usher in a new era of insights into human biology and disease. To date, we have raised >$50M from venture partners and non-dilutive grant funding to achieve our vision of next generation protein sequencing.

What We Are Looking For In You

We are seeking an experienced Assay Development scientist to conduct experiments that will enable the next generation of sensitive, accurate, and scalable single-molecule protein sequencing. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic research team as part of an intellectually stimulating and collaborative project. As a scientist at our early-stage startup, the candidate will have an opportunity to apply their creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm and make significant contributions to an exciting and impactful project. The scientist will report to Director of Assay Development and bring their expertise in molecular biology to a cross-functional project at the interface of molecular biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, and automation.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Propose, plan, and execute experiments to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of Glyphic’s protein sequencing process with product development in mind.
  • Propose and design novel approaches to improve molecular biology, automation, or any other areas related to Glyphic’s protein sequencing process.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and help address experimental risks or resource gaps, such as reagent supply or instrument issues.
  • Collaborate with scientists on the Assay Development team to ensure successful delivery of team goals and prioritize experiments accordingly.
  • Collaborate with scientists in Chemistry, Bioinformatics, and Product Development teams to assist and contribute to cross-functional projects by proactively interacting with team members.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze data from molecular biology and protein sequencing experiments with critical thinking.
  • Keep a detailed electronic lab notebook on Benchling.
  • Communicate and present results in a timely manner.

Required Competencies

  • BS/MS/PhD with 4+/2+/0+ (for Scientist II) or BS/MS with 2+/1+ (for Scientist I) years of post-graduate experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related fields
  • Expertise and sound conceptual understanding of DNA-based assays, including ligation, hybridization capture, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Experience with and conceptual understanding of DNA purification and QC methods such as column or bead-based purification, gel extraction, Tapestation, Bioanalyzer, and UV-vis absorbance measurements.
  • Familiarity with compressed gas and chemical safety protocols for handling reagents such as strong acids and bases.
  • Familiarity with standard principles of buffer and master mix preparation, including molarity and pH estimation.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to keep accurate lab records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and asa team member.
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive individual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with chemical functionalization of biomolecules or surfaces (e.g. EDC, NHS, Click)
  • Experience with data analysis using GraphPad Prism, Excel, and/or similar programs.
  • Experience with bead-based automation on instruments such as Integra Assist Plus or OpenTrons.
  • Familiarity with HPLC for biomolecule purification and validation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and techniques in proteomic measurements is a plus.
