Position Summary: This position manages and coordinates employees for custodial, electrical and maintenance positions using best management practices. Has a strong understanding of federal, state and local compliance reporting and other requirements. Assumes responsibility of the Director of Buildings and Grounds in their absence.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage a crew of 3-6 full time and part time employees for the general maintenance and upkeep of facilities
  • Ensure proper distribution of assignments, staffing, supplies and equipment for best management practices
  • Oversees the outsourced housekeeping assignments and various vendor relationships
  • Responsible for Tier II reporting, 3-year DOT Hazmat certification and the updating and continued reporting into the university's lead and asbestos logs, OSHA and other compliance initiatives
  • Conducts periodic comprehensive inspections to maintain a living and learning environment for university employees, staff and students
  • Lead efforts to improve energy efficiency and sustainability practices
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned

Skills And Experience

  • Proficient with computer and software packages (ie. creating spreadsheets with formulas, Excel, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Experience in housekeeping and general cleaning practices
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and best practices for facilities management
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence; experience working with underrepresented students and students from at-risk backgrounds
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills; must be able to communicate and interact effectively with Mount Mary students, employees, and alumnae
  • Exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize projects
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups, facilitate group process and foster collaborative decision making
  • Comfortable working with architects, engineers, carpenters and other vendor communications
  • Able to assist in preparing budgets, cost estimates, cost forecasting, schedules and risk analysis for projects
  • Working knowledge of Asset Management Databases preferred
  • Familiar with conducting regular performance evaluations of staff and ensures successful completion of their corresponding evaluations.

Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Management and administrative skills, particularly the ability to analyze, organize, prioritize and delegate
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • A minimum of five years supervisory experience
  • Three plus years of progressive facilities management

Physical Demands

  • May be required to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks over extended periods of time
  • Some repetitive motion may be required

Working Conditions

  • 40 hours a week and availability to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours
  • Varying workflow; sometimes stressful with high workload times of the year
