The hiring salary for this position is $62,500 per year.

Position Summary

The Instructional Designer assists the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Master’s in Graduate Studies (MGS) instructional design team with the creation of instructional materials, including those that involve multimedia production (podcasts, videos, webforms) in support of overall program delivery and course management. Assist in the production of course and program assets – including those designed for internal use, faculty use, learner use, or sharing with participants in the CIA’s graduate-level public programs.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Build new courses and maintain updates in Moodle, Moodle Primer and / or Teachable platforms.
  • Assist with opening new modules, course announcements and any related updates needed for sharing with students in Moodle course management system.
  • Develop course assets – including multi-media (podcasts, videos, webforms) and other kinds of web-enhanced and web-based content.
  • Develop course graphics and related assets using established programs such as Canva or Adobe InDesign.
  • Work with CIA’s Research Librarian to develop digital content needed for classes, including readings, case studies, videos, and other materials.
  • Create and update Harvard Business Review (HBR) Course Packs as needed for new and upcoming courses.
  • Assist MGS team with document preparation, formatting, editing, and revising as needed.
  • Edit instructional videos for audio and video clarity, including review of lectures and close captioning updates/editing as needed.
  • Review video playlists for all courses – manage in Kaltura platform in Moodle, with backup on external hard drives.
  • Assist with Google Form creation, including end-of-term survey updates and providing links to students as needed.
  • Maintain Calendly office hour updates, including forwarding student requests to faculty.
  • Assist with facilitation of live virtual webinars and meetings, including posting of recordings to Food Business School (FBS) website, Moodle Sandbox, Moodle, Teachable and other web-based platforms.
  • Assist with monitoring course flow in the Moodle or Teachable learning management systems.
  • Assist with Moodle troubleshooting with students and faculty, including instruction of Learning Management System (LMS) platform tools as needed; track usage issues for reporting to MGS team.
  • Assist faculty with Moodle training and issues of concern through ad hoc troubleshooting and provide regularly scheduled office hours designed to offer faculty-focused Moodle support.
  • Create how-to guides for internal and external publication, distribution, and use.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and provide status updates on projects/activities.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

Education

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in related field such as business administration, online education, research or culinary/hospitality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong interest or experience in food business highly desirable.
  • Working experience in higher education preferred.

  • Strong written communication skills with excellent editing skills and superior attention to detail.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with Google Apps systems and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
  • Regular work requires the use of a computer, sometimes in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
  • Able to travel periodically to other CIA locations due to business needs.
