What We Want

The Audit and Data Coordination Specialist serves as a liaison between Sponsored Research Services (SRS) and internal and external auditors on financial data, and sponsored projects within SRS. Analyzes and maintains data supporting specialized and complex reporting projects. Interprets findings and data ensuring accuracy of research reports year to year. Develops and performs assessments to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of SRS data from Maestro research administration system and various agency financial systems. Advises the Assistant Director of Research Reporting on problematic data, data fields and attributes, and makes corrections through advanced technical support and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of related experience in auditing or data collection and analysis and using data management information systems.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to participate in and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to gather information requirements, retrieve accurate information, and present information.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new data analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Skilled with word processing and spreadsheets.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional work experience in auditing, data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting, and reconciling.
  • Knowledge with FAMIS, Data Warehouse, Business Objects (BO), Maestro, Concur, Aggiebuy, Academic Analytics and Power Bl.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and projects with short turn-around times.
  • Ability to design, develop, conduct and assess effectiveness of programs and applications, specifically with research productivity and administration.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, problem solving, and technical consultation. Taken CPA exam or has a CPA.


Responsibilities
  • Audit Liaison - Serves as a liaison between Sponsored Research Services (SRS) and internal and external auditors on financial data, and sponsored projects within SRS. Prepares, maintains, and presents data population for audit review. Responds to requests for information and documentation to auditors in desired formats. Develops and performs quality assurance activities related to sponsored projects within SRS. Analyzes and reviews internal controls, sponsored research records, and processes to ensure compliance and accuracy. Assists in coordinating and scheduling audit work, attending entrance and exit meetings, and developing management responses to audit observations.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting - Analyzes and maintains data supporting specialized and complex reporting projects. Interprets findings and data ensuring accuracy of research reports year to year. Develops and consolidates data and responses for required surveys including the NSF Higher Education R&D Survey, THECB annual survey of R&D expenditures, NIH Annual Survey of Expenditures, and assessments required by external federal and state agencies. Develops comprehensive reporting of data and research metrics from Texas A&M and TAMUS agencies which includes Agrilife Research & Extension, TEES, TTI, TVMDL, TAMU HSC Office, Systems Office, TAMU Galveston, and Texas A&M Research Foundation. Prepares, maintains, and presents historical and comparative data for internal and external reports. Develops and maintains internal metrics for SRS Pre and Post award units.
  • Data Integrity, Accuracy & Quality Assurance - Develops and performs assessments to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of SRS data from Maestro research administration system and various agency financial systems. Analyzes data attributes in FAMIS and Maestro systems for new funding sponsors, research accounts, and projects. Reconciles indirect costs and performs financial tasks for Sponsored projects. Prepares exception reports to ensure data fields are completed for accurate reporting of R&D metrics (expenditures, awards, and proposals). Maintain and updates procedures for integrating University data.
  • Provides training and consultation with Texas A&M and TAMUS agencies ensuring data consistency and accuracy. Implements process mapping on document processes and identifies areas of improvement.
  • Technical Support & Training- Advises the Assistant Director of Research Reporting on problematic data, data fields and attributes, and makes corrections through advanced technical support and troubleshooting. Performs assessments to research and analyze technical errors, provide recommendations, and implement effective solutions. Serves as technical resources for staff offering assistance and consultation on assessment and data activities.
