WCNC-TV, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Charlotte, North Carolina is seeking an Executive Producer-Weather to oversee our talented weather team. The perfect candidate will possess prior TV leadership experience, a commitment to success, and a desire to mentor and offer regular feedback to the team. Our team strives for growth, and we seek a leader who shares this ambition. As the executive producer, you will work closely with the Chief Meteorologist and News Director in managing schedules, weather products, and daily broadcasts by overseeing and helping create (shoot, write, edit) content on a regular basis. The right candidate will also occasionally fill-in on air.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and execute long-term weather team strategy
  • Train, develop, and coach the weather team with a focus on mentoring content creators across all platforms
  • Oversee the on-air execution and provide coaching and showcasing techniques
  • Oversee the daily editorial process; help create (shoot, write and edit) content
  • Review, approve scripts, and provide writing/copy editing to rundowns to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Ensure the weather coverage meets our brand, policies, values, and FCC rules
  • Direct weather team operations
  • Work with Chief Meteorologist and News Director to manage schedules, weather products and daily broadcasts
  • Work with management to establish goals and further develop our local brand
  • Other duties as needed, to include occasionally filling-in on air

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in communications or related field; preferred degree in meteorology or atmospheric science
  • Minimum of three - five years of experience as an on-air meteorologist or weather producer/manager
  • Demonstrated ability to create, produce, and post graphics and content to all media, including linear and digital platforms.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news, and changing events
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
