Axle is seeking a Clinical Informaticist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) located in Rockville, MD.

Axle Informatics is a bioinformatics and information technology company that offers innovative computer services, informatics, and enterprise solutions to research centers and healthcare organizations around the globe. We collaborate with top research organizations, including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

We are seeking a Clinical Informaticist to support projects in the National Center for Advancing Data Science and Analytics Collaboration (NacDacC) Clinical Enclaves. This individual will work closely with data scientists, stakeholders, and clinical sites to monitor, improve, and maintain data quality and phenotypes across clinical datasets, ensuring high-quality submissions. The successful candidate will also develop and maintain pipelines for ancillary data acquisition, support new enclave requests, and create disease-specific phenotypes for various NIH enclaves.

Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

  • Data Quality Management:

    • For NacDacC Clinical sites, iterate on data quality findings with each site until the site data passes quality checks.

    • Monitor and remediate data quality issues as they arise to ensure ongoing compliance with standards.

    • Create Data Quality Scorecards that can be used across NacDacC Clinical Enclaves.

  • Phenotype Management:

    • Maintain longitudinal phenotypes for NacDacC Clinical Enclaves on GitHub, along with comprehensive documentation to help clinical sites extract and submit their data.

    • Write, test, and deploy disease-specific phenotypes for the Clinical Enclaves based on specifications developed with stakeholders from NCI and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).

  • Data Acquisition and Ingestion Pipelines:

    • Develop acquisition and ingestion pipelines for ancillary data relevant to the NCI Cancer Enclave and NIDDK Renal Enclave, such as North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) data and transplant data.

  • Consultation and Collaboration:

    • Consult with potential new enclave requesters (e.g., other NIH Institutes) to assess feasibility, ancillary data needs, and other technical requirements.

    • Collaborate with key stakeholders and data teams to improve data frameworks and pipelines.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in data quality management, clinical data pipelines, and phenotype development.

  • Familiarity with data quality tools and GitHub for maintaining and documenting EHR based phenotypes.

  • Experience working with clinical or research data, ideally within healthcare or biomedical research environments.

  • Familiarity with Common Data Models, in particular OMOP

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across various NIH Institutes.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with NAACCR or transplant data.

  • Familiarity with NIH data and processes
