Position Overview

Work with a team of clinicians, data scientists, and policy analysts to annually update the methodology for assigning HCPCS/ CPT codes to a restructured type of service classification system (RBCS), which is the successor to the Berenson-Eggers Type of Service (BETOS) classification. The classification system includes all levels of HCPCS/ CPT codes for Medicare Part B services, including codes for professional services, durable medical equipment, drugs, and clinical lab tests.

Responsibilities

  • Assign new HCPCS/ CPT codes to groups and subgroups within the new classification system;
  • Assess whether HCPCS/ CPT codes already assigned to a group/subgroup within the new classification system should be reassigned;
  • Assess whether new groups/subgroups should be added in order to keep pace with changes in practice patterns and technology;
  • Identify conditions where creation of a new RBCS category, subcategory or family is required;
  • Provide expertise in the following areas:
    • Major procedure identification
    • Add-on codes
    • RVUs
    • Service settings
    • Unbundling payments
    • Fee schedules
    • Conversion of WW codes to J codes
Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding and application
  • Knowledge and understanding of disease process and etiology
  • Knowledge of HCPCS and RBCS taxonomy structure and process
  • One of the following certifications:
      • RHIA: Registered Health Information Administrator Certification (requires Bachelor Degree)
      • RHIT: Registered Heath Information Technologist Certification (requires Associate Degree)
      • CCS: Certified Coding Specialist Certification
      • CPC: Certified Professional Coder
      • Other AHIMA and AAPC coding/billing related certifications will be considered
The salary range provided represents the estimated compensation for new hires in this position, applicable across all locations. Actual offers may vary based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and market conditions.
