Position Summary: The Controller, Stadium and Miami Freedom Park will support the Finance & Accounting functions for both the Miami Freedom Park stadium and commercial development projects and will be responsible for daily accounting operations across the organizations. This person will have direct responsibility for weekly and monthly financial reporting, accounting policies and procedures, recurring and year-end accounting reporting requirements, accounting systems and systems maintenance, cash flow management and reporting, budget monitoring, and tax planning (in conjunction with tax advisors). They will also maintain the accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) ledgers by processing all inbound and outbound payments. This position will require regular interfacing with counterparts at consulting firms, engineering firms, and 3rd party development managers to process invoices and payments. The individual will work in a hybrid matrixed organization structure.

Accounting Operations

  • Establish and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Manage daily, monthly, and year-end accounting and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements to leadership.
  • Lead in all accounting activities related to audits associated with the stadium and Miami Freedom Park.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls and processes for safeguarding company assets and compliance.
  • Establish and maintain a chart of accounts and the general ledger.
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues, expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor, review, and post all accounting transactions.
  • Evaluate current accounting systems and lead systems evolutions and enhancements.

Stadium Accounting and Budget Management

  • Lead all aspects of the accounting for the Miami Freedom Park stadium project.
  • Assist in monitoring the costs and construction budget.
  • Conduct analysis as requested of costs, cost trends, and cost efficiencies or opportunities.
  • Partner in loan compliance requirements related to stadium financing during and after construction.
  • Assist with stadium event accounting and post-event settlements.

Cash Management

  • Oversee invoice payment authorization workflows and disbursements.
  • Research vendor statements, which may include contacting vendors for payments of reported outstanding balances to ensure accurate and complete invoice payments.
  • Research payment history and respond to vendor inquiries regarding payments for the purpose of providing accuracy, completeness, and transparency of payment processes and status.
  • Generate and process invoices while ensuring timely receipt of payments from outside parties.
  • Maintain master vendor and customer payment files and payment processing information.
  • Investigate, research, compile data for, and prepare responses to accounting-related inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., employees, vendors, auditors) for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with policies, and monitoring business office processes.
  • Maximize cash flow through effective working capital management and payment cycles.

Tax Management

  • Maintain and file all required vendor, employee, contractor, and other tax documents.
  • Manage/supervise tax filing preparation in conjunction with third-party tax advisors.
  • Assist in the development of tax efficiency strategies for the projects.

Other

  • Assist in processing and recording of payroll and payroll related taxes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience within the accounting field; CPA required.
  • Proven experience as an accounting manager.
  • Demonstrated experience as a real estate development or construction project accountant preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of accounting and banking systems.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, agile office environment is essential.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends and holidays when required.
