Position Summary

The Director of Federal Strategies will spearhead All* Above All’s federal work, providing strategic leadership and overseeing the implementation of innovative approaches. This pivotal role involves shaping and executing federal policies, tracking legislative developments, and managing the Federal Strategies team. As a vocal advocate, the Director will effectively communicate the significance of protecting and expanding abortion access. Beyond legislative endeavors, the role extends to grassroots organizing, coalition building, research, and strategic communications. Collaborating within a diverse team, the Director will contribute to advancing abortion justice, emphasizing intersections with racial, economic, and immigrant justice.

What You'll Do

  • Shapes and executes the federal policy agenda, meticulously tracking legislative, litigation, rulemaking, and other policy developments.
  • Leads and guides the Federal Strategies team to execute a federal model supporting culture change campaigns and policy advocacy, addressing the crossroads of abortion justice with economic, immigrant, and racial justice.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on federal policy matters, including abortion coverage, medication abortion, and their connections to immigrant, economic, and racial justice.
  • Acts as a strategic liaison to Capitol Hill, ensuring campaign priorities influence proactive and defensive activities.
  • Establishes systems, timelines, and resource frameworks for achieving strategic federal goals, ensuring programmatic excellence.
  • Nurtures strong working relationships with Congressional and Executive branches, as well as key federal agencies.
  • Collaborates with cross-movement partners to identify champions in Congress aligned with abortion justice, economic, and immigrant justice.
  • Leads the internal team in developing additional proactive priorities related to abortion justice for Congress and the Executive Branch.
  • Manages consultants and vendors to align with the programmatic vision and goals.
  • Keeps stakeholders, partners, and national coalitions informed on federal efforts.
  • Represents the organization's interests with campaign partners, lobbying teams, etc., fostering and sustaining relationships and contributing to planning related meetings and events.
  • Advocates and represents the organization at meetings, briefings, and events in Washington, D.C., ensuring representation at coalition meetings.
  • Guides subject matter policy research, analysis, and writing.
  • Oversees federal contacts, briefings, and activities of the Federal Strategies team, ensuring timely reporting of legislative activities.
  • Ensures alignment and coordination among federal, state, and local strategies, electoral, communications teams.
  • Contributes to strategic thinking and planning for All* Above All, reinforcing the culture and values of the organization.
  • Creates and manages the Federal Strategies budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Recruits, supervises, and develops Federal Strategies staff supporting the team to advance campaign goals.

Other

  • This position involves travel (up to 50%) to various states and cities for coalition, legislative, and campaign team meetings as well as within the DMV area for meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the organization's leadership.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of strategic excellence and effective management within reproductive, economic, immigrant, and/or racial justice movements and organizations.
  • Proven expertise in federal policy, political, and/or electoral campaign strategy.
  • Deep understanding of and unwavering commitment to reproductive justice, ensuring universal access to abortion.
  • Results-oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to navigate multiple tasks, adapt to shifting priorities, and thrive under tight deadlines amid competing demands.
  • Analytical problem solver with a solutions-oriented mindset, adept at connecting dots across campaigns and initiatives, and recognizing systems and processes requiring adjustment.
  • Proven ability to anticipate, comprehend, and resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a collaborative, participatory environment and independently when necessary.

The Pay Range For This Role Is

150,000 - 150,000 USD per year(Remote)
