Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs ( ESIA ) is one of the world’s leading schools of international affairs and one of the largest schools of international affairs in the United States. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., its mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues, and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world.

The Elliott School seeks a dynamic and motivated individual to serve as Academic Program Coordinator to support a portfolio of our master’s degree programs and professional skills courses. The Program Coordinator reports to the Supervisor, Academic Programs.

The Academic Programs team engages with current and prospective students, builds collegial relationships with internal team members, and works closely with faculty, directors, and staff throughout ESIA and key university offices. The Program Coordinators collaborate, cross-train, and support each other’s programs as needed.

This role will serve as a point of contact for the assigned programs, will answer typical program questions, and will assist the program faculty with a variety of functional and administrative support. Typical duties often are administrative in nature including tasks that are routine, and under the general supervision of more senior personnel within the department, or program.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Assists in planning and scheduling of courses in coordination with program directors, full-time and part-time faculty.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact and counsels current, incoming, and prospective students based on knowledge of the assigned academic programs.
  • Refers inquiries to the responsible offices; including Admissions, Alumni Affairs, Advising, Career Services, etc.
  • Provides day-to-day administrative and operational support, including preparation of program reports and assessments and budget management, including processing payments and tracking expenditures/reimbursements.
  • Assists in creating, organizing, and promoting student-focused programming, meetings, and conferences.
  • Supports graduation celebration planning and other events.
  • Monitors webpages and bulletin pages to ensure all information is current and correct and communicates updates with the responsible offices.
  • Assists with communication and outreach; including social media campaigns and newsletters

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

This is a hybrid position with some days in-person in Washington, DC and some days remote.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/ GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexible, congenial, and efficient.
  • The ability to take initiative and ownership of their work.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholder groups, both orally and in writing.
  • The ability to work as a member of a team and develop a strong working relationship with administrative offices and staff.
  • Previous experience in academic affairs, student services, or the Registrar’s Office is highly desired.
  • Strong interest in and/or skills in event planning.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • A demonstrated interest in International Affairs preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred.

Hiring Range $21.27 - $27.63
