The Lead Bookkeeper for our Financial Services client, based in Nashville, is responsible for managing and overseeing the bookkeeping operations for a diverse portfolio of clients. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong accounting knowledge, excellent client service skills, and the ability to lead a team of bookkeepers. The Lead Bookkeeper ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and delivers exceptional service to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Management:
- Serve as a point of contact for assigned clients, building and maintaining strong relationships.
- Understand clients' financial needs and provide tailored bookkeeping services to meet their business objectives.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates, answer questions, and resolve any issues.
Bookkeeping and Financial Reporting:
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day bookkeeping operations for multiple clients, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions in compliance with GAAP and client-specific requirements.
- Prepare and review financial statements, including Profit and Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow Statements.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of junior bookkeepers, ensuring high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide training and guidance to team members, promoting their professional growth and development.
- Assign and monitor workload, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are satisfied with the services provided.
- Report to Lead Accountant for each client account to ensure accuracy and quality recording.
Process Improvement and Compliance:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in bookkeeping and financial reporting.
- In cooperation with Lead Accountant, ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
Technology and Systems Management:
- Utilize and manage accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and other financial tools to optimize bookkeeping processes.
- Assist in the implementation of new technology solutions to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to bookkeeping systems and software.
Client Advisory Services:
- Collaborate with other departments within the firm to offer comprehensive financial solutions to clients.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bookkeeping Certification, Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or commensurate experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience working in an accounting firm or client services environment is highly desirable.
- Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processing.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping practices, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and team members.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously.
- Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Bookkeeper (CB) or similar certification/commensurate experience.
- Experience with multi-state payroll and tax filings.
- Knowledge of industry-specific accounting regulations and compliance standards.
