Essential Functions

  • Complete Payroll Processing Cycle: Oversee the full payroll processing cycle, including verifying data inputs, initiating pay calculations, reviewing results, transmitting registers, verifying pay and tax deposits, and finalizing data with Human Resources and Finance for general ledger journal entries. Ensure accurate calculations of gross pay, net pay distribution, and withholdings (taxes, benefits deductions, retirement contributions, etc.).
  • Payroll Auditing: Conduct audits before processing payroll to verify accuracy. Make necessary changes in the system or reach out to managers to resolve discrepancies and ensure that records are correct.
  • Employee Communication: Actively follow up with employees regarding payroll questions. Communicate that you are working on their issues, provide clear explanations of any discrepancies, and detail how these issues will be resolved to prevent recurrence. It is your responsibility to close the loop on all related payroll issues and implement solutions to improve current workflows.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain comprehensive digital records of each payroll cycle. Produce regular and ad-hoc reports for Human Resources, Finance, audits, regulators, and government agencies. Oversee the processing of court orders, garnishments, tax levies, and other required withholdings.
  • Technical Research and Compliance: Conduct research on technical payroll and accounting issues, as well as federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance. Responsible for maintaining and enhancing internal controls within the payroll function.
  • Audit Support: Perform weekly and monthly audits, including but not limited to benefit deductions, FLSA status and pay.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and refinement of payroll policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Customer Service: Uphold high standards of customer service while managing payroll inquiries and issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that payroll processing aligns with service level standards, emphasizing risk management, regulatory compliance, data governance, security, and audit readiness.
