We’re looking for a world-class editor to lead our agenda-setting coverage of companies, finance, deals, and policy in the United States.
Over more than two decades, Reuters Breakingviews has built an unrivalled reputation for delivering clear, punchy, and well-informed views for decision-makers around the world. As part of the global news organization, we combine access to high-level contacts with the highest standards of independence and accuracy.
This is a unique opportunity to shape opinion on companies, finance and regulation in the world’s biggest capital market. As executives and investors grapple with gyrating interest rates, disruption from new technologies, unpredictable government policy, and geopolitical tensions, the demand for clear-eyed, perceptive and financially literate commentary is greater than ever.
You will lead our crack squad of columnists, editors and production editors in North America and be responsible for developing and strengthening the team. You will work closely with other Breakingviews editors in the United States and around the world, as well as colleagues in the Reuters newsroom.
To fill this important role, we are looking for an experienced financial journalist with a proven track record of writing and editing well-informed and punchy commentary; deep relationships with senior executives, investors, dealmakers and regulators; razor-sharp analytical skills; and the ability to explain complex concepts to an international audience.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations: Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $140,100 - $260,300. The base compensation range in other locations may vary. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.

About The Role
In this opportunity as U.S. Editor for Reuters Breakingviews, you will:
- Conceive, commission and edit punchy and original views on companies, financial institutions, and economic policy for our high-level global audience.
- Establish and maintain contacts with senior executives, financiers, dealmakers, and officials to develop agenda-setting insights and raise Breakingviews’ profile.
- Lead a team of columnists, editors, and production editors in North America with a view to identifying, developing, and retaining talent.
- Work with other Breakingviews editors around the world to explore global themes, develop new editorial initiatives and attract new readers.
You're a fit for the role of U.S. Editor of Reuters Breakingviews if your background includes:
- An established record of commissioning, editing, and writing sophisticated and insightful financial commentary to tight deadlines.
- A base of high-level contacts in U.S. corporate boardrooms and among financiers, dealmakers, and officials.
- A detailed understanding of financial statements, analysis of corporate transactions, stock market valuations, and a familiarity with financial and economic data.
- Experience of leading editorial teams.
