Job Summary:

The Staff Software Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing new software features and airline programs. In this role, you will lead cross-functional teams to ensure engineering activities meet commitments for both airline programs and product feature development.

You will work closely with engineering, systems, product line, and program management teams to define project plans, set milestones, identify risks, and drive execution. This role requires a solid technical background to effectively manage the complexities of the projects, balancing technical challenges with efficient project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing projects within a software development lifecycle (SDLC) and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills. They will foster collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to maintain clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle. Additionally, they will implement project-based processes to improve delivery efficiency and ensure that both technical and business objectives are met.

This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to see the big picture while ensuring the focus remains on delivering high-quality results on time and within scope.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the analysis and development of product and customer requirements, ensuring alignment with technical and business objectives.
  • Identify and document all customer deliverables, including production items such as mechanical, electronic, or electromechanical assemblies, software, media, customer racks, documentation, and systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project plans and milestones and identify risks.
  • Establish and clearly define roles and responsibilities within the cross-functional team to ensure accountability and smooth execution of tasks.
  • Identify and document internal deliverables, including project plans, schedules, prototypes, test equipment, software, and other necessary materials.
  • Lead teams to establish comprehensive, end-to-end project plans and schedules, ensuring alignment and "buy-in" from all stakeholders.
  • Maintain and actively manage the project plan and schedule, adjusting as needed to meet changing demands.
  • Work with project stakeholders to define key metrics and KPIs for project success and regularly track performance against those metrics to ensure progress is on target.
  • Apply standard techniques, procedures, processes, and criteria to execute engineering assignments effectively.
  • Facilitate efficient and action-oriented meetings that drive project progress and accountability.
  • Exercise independent judgment to ensure projects and assignments are completed accurately, on time, and within scope. Manage tasks assigned to other team members to ensure timely completion.
  • Facilitate internal design and software kickoff meetings to develop and solidify the software plan.
  • Identify critical project risks and establish mitigation strategies by the project kickoff stage. Track and manage risks through the JIRA database, ensuring issues are addressed until resolved.
  • Motivate and drive cross-functional teams to meet deliverables and achieve project goals.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required to support the team's and the project's success.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 10-15 years of experience in technical project management in software, electrical or mechanical design
  • 7+ years of software and/or hardware engineering development experience
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft MS Office products, Excel, Project, Visio, JIRA, Confluence, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with the phase gate development process
  • Knowledge of components involved in building electronic systems: boards, mechanical parts, cables, software - and their manufacture
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum principles

Benefits

The starting pay range for this position is $112,000 to $144,000 per year however, base pay offered may vary depending on the level, skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
