Department Overview

PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric) IT is a unified organization composed of various departments which collaborate effectively to plan, deliver, and operate high quality technology solutions. Grid and Control Center technology department is in the process of embarking major transformation journey implementing ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System), DERMS (Distributed Energy resource management system) and supports & maintains legacy applications within Electric distribution & transmission and Gas area to meet identified business goals and priorities.

Position Summary

The Technical Lead, Expert reports to the Senior Manager, Business Technology. The position collaborates closely with cross-functional teams in Electric Distribution planning, Distribution Operations, & IT (Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure Operations, Cloud Center of Excellence, & Product & Enterprise Platform Applications) to improve Distribution planning and control center applications by leveraging modern technology. As part of our customer engagement team, the position is responsible for design, development, deployment and monitoring solutions that help safe, reliable, and efficient planning, design, construction and operation of the electric distribution system.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office(OGO) or San Ramon Valley Conference Center(SRVC) 3 days a week and or based on business need.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $136,000

Job Responsibilities:
  • Build applications and maintain applications that assist distribution capacity planning and distribution control process efficiencies
  • Lead and mentor the development team in a hands-on way
  • Oversee software quality and system modifications
  • Provide technical feasibility assessment while collaborating with partner teams to guide new feature development
  • Define and address application non-functional requirements
  • Provide subject matter expertise on data engineering and data analytics platforms
  • Working with developers and the IT department to improve development, testing and deployment processes
  • Perform / guide Data analysis, generate reports and present findings to aid decision-making
  • Design and implement application monitoring and notification strategy for timely detection and rectification of application issues
  • Collaborate with cyber security, Enterprise Architecture, Data and Analytics etc. to design, implement and support Distribution planning and Grid control applications that are scalable ,secure and highly available
  • Support leadership in development of strategic and tactical plans for improving overall distribution planning efficiencies
  • Follow an agile development methodology


Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 5 years of related work experience
  • 5+ years of working in Utility domain
  • Strong knowledge application development, cyber security and networking skills


Desired:

  • Expert in the solution architecture discipline, processes, concepts and best practices
  • Experience providing direction to design and engineering staff
  • Operational support for applications, systems, or infrastructure
  • 3 years of experience developing solution architectures for complex data platforms and products
  • 3 years of hands on experience working with Cloud technologies (e.g. AWS) etc.
  • Provided technical leadership and expertise in implementing large programs impacting multiple teams within an organization
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of architecture best practices and enterprise-scale solution development
  • Possess diversified technical background with Enterprise System Solution mindset
  • Able to provide individual or project oversight on rapid prototyping/POC efforts and large-scale enterprise wide roll out planning
  • Experience working with technology and business partners to develop secure and scalable solutions
  • Experience working as an Agile/Technical Lead in an Agile environment
  • Experience with developing solutions for data-driven applications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in achieving results by leading and influencing matrixed teams
  • Knowledge of data and analytics platforms like Teradata, Foundry and Snowflake is a plus
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and a strong work ethic
  • Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills
