Serving as a member of the marketing strategy team, and working collaboratively with campus leadership and marketing and communications partners across campus, the Marketing Strategist will develop and implement strategic plans focused on strengthening the IU Indianapolis brand reputation and supporting long-term enrollment growth.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Develops and activates marketing plans with a digital emphasis, creating messaging for specific target audiences, over-seeing the creation of campaign assets, and reporting on campaign success.
- Develops and executes comprehensive and highly complex marketing plans that engage the target audience(s) and achieve the desired outcomes.
- Possesses and maintains an in-depth understanding of brand marketing, enrollment marketing, marketing channels, audiences, and other relevant subject matter.
- Monitors industry trends and developments to identify appropriate opportunities to advance the University's goals.
- Supports sponsorship activation plans, coordinating efforts across campus partners to ensure the efforts align with university and campaign goals.
- Works cross-functionally within a matrixed organization including communications, content strategy, design, media, social media, and web.
- Develops strong relationships with campus marketing and communications partners to serve as a strategic resource to support their work.
- Works with assessments colleagues to measure campaign performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Participates in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives.
- May involve multiple consecutive projects and collaboration with other departments, employees, university stakeholders and vendors.
- Independently develops and executes basic and complex strategic marketing plans for a department or functional area within a department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation.
- Responds to inquiries and requests from stakeholders and explains information regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and acts as a collaborative resource in curating marketing plans to relevant initiatives, groups, events, and programs.
- Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty, including information on various marketing channels (print, online, electronic, email, social media, and direct mail).
- May participate in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives.
- Collaborates with users of various software programs and creative platforms to create and deliver content and marketing materials in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.
- May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Generalists; may make process and operational recommendations to manager.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5 years in relevant field
- 6 years of experience with strong knowledge and experience in marketing and communications principles and strategy
- Experience in creating and successfully implementing comprehensive marketing and communications plans
- Experience in brand-building initiatives, including creating highly engaging digital paid media experiences
- Experience with paid social media campaigns
- Experience in multi-channel marketing with strong communications and brand strategy experience.
