Job Overview

We are currently seeking a skilled and committed Senior Database Administrator to become a vital member of our team, responsible for delivering crucial support for all SQL Server applications. This pivotal role will help bridge the gap during a transition period as we prepare to backfill the current Senior DBA. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless operation of our extensive and intricate applications, particularly those essential to the Bureau of Labs and Cancer Registry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures while researching and drafting guidelines within established protocols.
  • Monitor and adjust space allocation across databases, including necessary modifications in test and development environments as per predefined standards.
  • Assess disk space requirements to fulfill the evolving demands of our organization.
  • Adjust database management system (DBMS) parameters in response to changes in capacity.
  • Configure and execute database integrity assessments while actively monitoring for integrity concerns.
  • Install database management software for development and test environments, including necessary patches and service packs.
  • Provide support for clustered database environments and oversee database replication and backup operations.
  • Implement strategies to reclaim unused space or rectify fragmentation in development and test scenarios.
  • Execute scripts supplied by Systems Analysts or Database Architects for the creation and modification of database objects (tables, views, constraints, indexes, etc.).
  • Ensure database backups are consistently monitored for recoverability and address any backup errors.
  • Supervise database jobs and scheduled processes across development, test, and production environments.
  • Engage in troubleshooting initiatives and oversee database environments for potential issues, connectivity problems, or downtime.
  • Adhere to best practices for database space allocation based on business needs.

Required Skills

  • Over 7 years of experience in database administration, specifically with SQL Server 2016 and later.
  • Proficient in high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Strong knowledge in implementing Transparent Data Encryption within SQL Server.
  • Solid documentation skills with at least 3 years of experience in creating, updating, and maintaining systems documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline.
