This position serves as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Bureau of Laboratories (BOL) Health and Safety Officer. This position has responsibility over planning, developing, implementing, managing, evaluating and monitoring the BOL bio health and biosafety program. This includes maintaining policies, procedures. This position ensures the program complies with all applicable Federal, State, local, and municipal health, laws, rules regulations, and guidelines. This position provides consultation to local public health agency laboratories within the State of Michigan to assist in developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety programs. This position exercises judgment within the context of general departmental and bureau policy to meet the agency missions.

Required Education And Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, or a related pure or applied field.

Experience

Five years of professional experience equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist, including three years equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist P11, two years equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 12, or one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist Specialist 13.

Additional Requirements And Information

The preferred and appointed candidate will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and/or alcohol testing.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 3350 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Lansing, MI.

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications.
