Job Summary:

Serves a principal role in designing, implementing and managing pharmacy business systems for a centralized business function of UNC Health Care. The Business Application Analyst - Pharmacy works with stakeholders across the health system to implement, maintain, standardize, and advance pharmacy systems while ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in pharmacy technology. Functions as primary liaison with managers, users, and information systems to facilitate resolution of pharmacy systems and applications problems. This is a local position in North Carolina.

Description of Job Responsibilities:

1. Conducts financial/operational analysis for departmental and institutional planning and process improvement. Identifies through data analysis, opportunities for improvement in business or application processing.

2. Analyze data from pharmacy technology systems to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, providing actionable insights to enhance medication safety, operational efficiency, and overall pharmacy performance across the health system

3. Helps maintain the configuration of pharmacy software systems to continually meet the operational requirements of the department and/or can alter operations to meet the capabilities of an existing system. Assists with upgrades, implementation, integration, maintenance, evaluation, and performance improvements.

4. Formulates/defines scope and objectives for pharmacy department systems development and implementation. Acts as business expert and assists users in defining needs. Devises or modifies procedures to solve application problems, considering equipment capabilities and limitations, and form of desired results.

5. Oversees the definition, modification and maintenance of the configuration of multiple systems and applications to continually meet the operational requirements of the department's business function.

6. Provides business process and application support to users. Analyzes and interprets program or system problems and coordinates resolution. Communicates as necessary with vendors and Information Services to resolve problems.

7. Provides training for users, providing tips and techniques of using systems applications for desired results. Coordinates employee training for new system implementation. Assists with workflow modifications.

8. Represents department and participates in system wide initiatives to improve efficiency and reach institutional goals/objectives

9. Support and monitor system-wide compliance with DSCSA regulations, overseeing processes related to drug tracking and reporting across all health system pharmacies

10. Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of pharmacy technology and automation systems, ensuring all updates, integrations, and maintenance activities are properly recorded and compliant with regulatory and organizational standards

11. Develop and deliver training and education programs for pharmacy staff to ensure proper use of pharmacy information systems and automation technologies

12. Manage technology-related projects impacting pharmacy departments across all health system locations, including planning, coordination, and execution of system-wide initiatives aimed at improving medication delivery

13. Collaborate with operational managers and other healthcare leaders to align pharmacy technology projects with the health system ' s strategic goals

Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information System Management, Math/Science or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
If a Bachelor's degree: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working with information systems.
If an Associate's degree: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience working with information systems.
If a High School diploma or GED: Eleven (11) years of progressively responsible experience working with information systems.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

The ideal candidate possesses strong critical thinking and analytical skills, capable of solving complex business problems, identifying data patterns, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. They have advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, macros, and automation, along with experience in data visualization and process streamlining. With a solid understanding of business applications, database management, and basic SQL, they are adaptable to new technologies. Excellent communication skills enable them to present technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across teams. They are self-motivated, able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively with minimal oversight
