Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic is entering an exciting phase as we develop the most trusted generative AI and LLM-based solutions to empower our staff, enhance our practice, and revolutionize healthcare. We are looking for a highly skilled technical leader to enable AI through our AI Factory product, which utilizes Google Cloud technology. As a technical leader and product owner of the AI Factory, you will be responsible for:

Connecting with Customers and Stakeholders: Understanding customer needs, even those indirectly related to the product. Balancing the needs of stakeholders like business owners and system architects with customer needs.

Vision and Roadmap Alignment: Provide practical insights into what the Agile Release Train (ART) can deliver, complementing the product manager's vision of what the ART should deliver by:
  • Understanding market forces and communicating them to the team.
  • Representing the end-user's needs and experiences.
  • Assisting with ART Backlog prioritization to ensure the vision and roadmap are reflected in the work the team does.
  • Educating the ART on the vision and roadmap during PI Planning.

Effective Backlog Management: Owning the team backlog, which includes user stories, enablers, and defects. Ensure the backlog is always ready for the team to work on and reflects the current needs of customers and stakeholders. Key activities include:
  • Guiding the creation of well-formed user stories aligned with product strategy.
  • Prioritizing backlog items based on their value and communicating that prioritization to the team.
  • Accepting stories that meet the Definition of Done, assuring built-in quality.
  • Collaborating with System Architects to support the Architectural Runway.

Guiding Value Delivery: During iteration execution, act as the primary customer proxy within the team, providing daily insights to guide development towards high-value outputs by:
  • Balancing stakeholder perspectives to make implementation decisions that deliver the best outcomes.
  • Collaborating with the team to elaborate on stories and manage dependencies.
  • Fostering Built-in Quality by regularly evaluating the value delivered and ensuring compliance with quality criteria.
  • Actively participate in team and ART events, offering a customer-centric perspective on the team's work.

Feedback and Continuous Improvement: Responsible for maximizing value, which requires understanding what constitutes value by:
  • Testing benefit hypotheses to validate whether solutions actually deliver value.
  • Actively obtaining feedback from customers and stakeholders through various channels.
  • Sharing this feedback with the ART to maintain alignment and enable continuous exploration.

Occasional Travel may be required.

Lead software design, prototype, and development of the Microservices/Mobile/Web Engineering teams. Understand the architecture, be a team player, lead technical discussions and communicate the technical discussion. Be a senior Individual contributor of the Software Engineering teams. Be part of Technical Review Board along with Manager and Principal Engineer. Be a technical liaison between Manager, Software Engineers and Principal Engineers. Collaborate with software engineers to analyze, develop and test functional requirements. Write clean, maintainable code 30% of the time and performing peer code-reviews. Mentor and Coach Engineers. Work with team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility. Work in an Agile/Safe/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software. Establish architectural principles, select design patterns, and then mentor team members on their appropriate application. Facilitate and drive communication between front-end, back-end, data and platform engineers. Play a formal Engineering lead role in the area of expertise. Keep up to date with industry trends and developments.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with 6 years of experience OR an Associate's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with 8 years of experience.

Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. A minimum experience of 5 years using relational databases and NoSQL Databases. Worked and lead Software Engineering teams in Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery model. Experience with modern application development frameworks. Build/Lead products which would provide Offline support and are highly resilient in nature. Build/Lead Test Automation suites, Unit Testing coverage, Monitoring & Observability of the Apps, Support Site reliability engineering and Application Security.

Continuous Integration using Jenkins, Git Hub Actions or Azure Pipelines. Experience with distributed databases such as SQL Server, Oracle or Mongo DB. Experience with cloud technologies, development and deployment. Experience with tools like Jira, GitHub, SharePoint, Azure Boards. Experience working with Fastlane for automated development and release process.
