Job Summary:

Deep learning is transforming how engineers design and build. Our team is looking for a skilled intern to conduct deep learning research in the field of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). As an intern in the Engineering Data Science group, you would be responsible for implementing and characterizing emerging deep learning methods for physics-based modeling. Your project(s) may lie in the fields of structural mechanics, fluid dynamics (CFD), or electromagnetics, and require you to work closely with software developers, product managers, and application specialists to chart a path from research to productization. It will also require that you give presentations to our team and to senior leadership about how the techniques you develop will improve a certain aspect of CAE.

What You Will Do:
  • Identify emerging deep learning technologies such as transformers, graph neural networks, and physics-informed neural networks to mechanical, aerospace, and civil engineering problems
  • Implement one or more promising algorithms and characterize its impact on engineering tasks
  • Collaborate with application specialists, software developers, and product managers to move promising new algorithms towards productization in Altair tools

What You Will Need:

Basics:
  • Be pursuing a degree in mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering, material science, computer science, software engineering, math, statistics or a related field
  • Some familiarity with common deep learning paradigms like transformers, graph neural networks, or physics-informed Neural Networks
  • Some familiarity with physics simulation like structural finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
  • Proficiency in python
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Preferred:
  • Previous experience with commercial CAD/CAE software is a bonus
  • Previous research experience (structuring computational experiments, reading academic papers, etc.) is a bonus
