Position Overview:
The 3D Environment Artist plays a key role in bringing high-quality VR educational projects to life. This position requires an expert in world and asset creation, someone well-versed in the latest tools and techniques who thrives on creative problem-solving. A successful candidate has a strong track record in Unity, ideally with experience in VR platforms like Igloo Vision and the Quest 3, and consistently raises the quality standard. This role focuses on designing realistic environments, such as classrooms, for educational programs.
Responsibilities:
- Create detailed environments in Unity with a realistic art style.
- Collaborate closely with leads to transform level designs into fully realized virtual worlds.
- Maintain project scalability across VR platforms, optimizing for performance.
- Set and uphold quality standards for 3D art assets.
- Ensure environments are visually cohesive and meet design specifications.
- Proven experience in environment creation using Unity.
- Advanced skills in Unity, including lighting, materials, budget management, and version control.
- Strong expertise in 3D modeling, capable of establishing quality benchmarks.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software like Z-brush, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, or other industry tools.
- Demonstrable experience through a portfolio, website, or showreel.
- Familiarity with VR production best practices, with an eye for limitations and future potential.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in creating node-based materials in Substance Designer and Unity 3D, as well as modifying textures in Photoshop.
- Experience working on VR, AR, or XR technology projects, ideally with Igloo and/or Oculus Quest 3.
- Must reside in Canada, preferably in BC, ON, or QC.
- Experience in educational VR applications.
- Ability to speak French is an asset.
This position is 100% remote; however, only candidates based in Canada and with Canadian Citizenship or PR will be considered. While Aequilibrium is a remote-first company, we host in-person social events and team-building activities.
Compensation:
Salary range: CAD $80K - $120K annually, based on skills and experience.
