Job Description:
The Data Governance Steward (Data Governance Specialist) represents the data interests of Data Governance Team, leadership, and stakeholders, ensuring adherence to data governance policies, processes, and procedures. They collaborate with other Business Data Stewards and the Data Governance team to make data governance decisions and incorporate them into project plans. The Data Governance Steward creates models, crosswalks, and mappings in compliance with metadata standards and communicates data lineage, crosswalks, definitions, and other metadata to the Data Governance team and other stakeholders. They advocate for consistency of data usage and sharing best practices, define and validate data quality rules, and contribute to reference data and master data efforts. The Data Governance Steward also monitors data quality metrics and partners with Privacy and Security teams to align Data Governance policies and procedures.

Job Description:
The Data Governance Steward (Data Governance Specialist) represents the data interests of Data Governance Team, leadership, and stakeholders, ensuring adherence to data governance policies, processes, and procedures. They collaborate with other Business Data Stewards and the Data Governance team to make data governance decisions and incorporate them into project plans. The Data Governance Steward creates models, crosswalks, and mappings in compliance with metadata standards and communicates data lineage, crosswalks, definitions, and other metadata to the Data Governance team and other stakeholders. They advocate for consistency of data usage and sharing best practices, define and validate data quality rules, and contribute to reference data and master data efforts. The Data Governance Steward also monitors data quality metrics and partners with Privacy and Security teams to align Data Governance policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Represent the data interests of assigned business area leadership and stakeholders and the data governance program.
- Ensure that data decisions and remediations are effectively communicated to business users and assess the impacts of these decisions on their work.
- Ensure adherence to data governance policies, processes, and procedures.
- Collaborate with other Business Data Stewards and the Data Governance team to make data governance decisions and incorporate them into project plans.
- Experience utilizing primarily Informatica or other relevant Data Governance tool, to be able to execute the following:
- Create models, crosswalks, and mappings in compliance with metadata standards and other best practices.
- Ensure proper documentation of data lineage and communicate it to the Data Governance team and other stakeholders.
- Advocate for consistency of data usage and sharing best practices.
- Work with business stakeholders to define appropriate capture, usage, and data quality business rules for business data elements.
- Maintain the names, descriptions, and data definitions of key business data elements.
- Conduct data profiling to identify quality issues and work with leadership to define acceptable levels of data quality.
- Define and validate data quality rules to ensure usability for business purposes.
- Conduct root cause analyses and submit change requests for issue remediation when needed.
- Contribute to reference data efforts by registering value lists for ingestion into the Master Data Management (MDM) system.
- Contribute to master data efforts by registering key business data elements and collaborating on data quality improvement efforts, such as profiling, root cause analysis, and issue remediation.
- Monitor data quality metrics and define improvement opportunities.
Partner with Privacy and Security teams to align Data Governance policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Experience with Data Governance Tools - Informatica preferred, other tools are a plus.
- Experience with other BI tools is a plus (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Cognos Analytics)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Knowledge of Azure Data Services is a plus (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory).
- Familiarity with machine learning and advanced analytics is a plus.
- Intermediate knowledge of databases (on-prem or cloud), querying datasets using SQL, Python, M, or other comparable languages
- Exposure or preliminary experience with leveraging ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) SaaS (software as a service) tools (e.g., Informatica, Alteryx, Power Query) is a plus.
- A good understanding of the agile development cycle and familiarity with Azure DevOps a big plus
- As required, work after-hours and during maintenance periods
- Limited travel required to perform job duties (< 5%)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Management) or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, policies, and best practices.
- Experience working with metadata standards and tools.
- Proficiency in data modeling, crosswalks, and mappings.
- Excellent communication and people skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and the Data Governance team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to conduct data profiling and root cause analyses.
- Knowledge of data quality management and ability to define and validate data quality rules.
- Familiarity with Master Data Management (MDM) systems and reference data management.
- Ability to monitor data quality metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
- Knowledge of privacy and security regulations and their impact on data governance.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
