Role Overview
The Payroll and HR Generalist is responsible for managing the day-to-day payroll operations and supporting HR activities, ensuring accurate payroll processing, compliance with tax and legal standards, and effective employee support. This role combines payroll expertise with general HR responsibilities, contributing to a smooth and efficient employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration:
- Process payroll accurately and timely on a bi-weekly or monthly basis for approximately 150 employees, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Calculate and verify payroll details, including overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and tax withholdings.
- Handle payroll adjustments, retroactive payments, and employee wage garnishments as required.
- Maintain accurate records of payroll transactions and employee information.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting departments to ensure proper allocation of payroll expenses.
- Administer and manage employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and renewals.
- Support employee relations activities, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management processes.
- Assist in recruitment efforts, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and conducting pre-employment checks.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires and exiting employees.
- Maintain compliance with labor laws, company policies, and procedures, keeping up-to-date with changes in employment regulations.
- Assist with employee training and development programs, ensuring skill development and performance improvement.
- Provide support for HR initiatives, including employee engagement, wellness programs, and diversity and inclusion efforts.
- Ensure compliance with all payroll-related and HR regulatory requirements, including tax filings, social security contributions, and government reporting.
- Prepare and submit required reports to local, state, and federal agencies as needed.
- Generate and analyze reports related to payroll, benefits, employee turnover, and other HR metrics.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to payroll and HR activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or equivalent related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing and HR generalist functions.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes, labor laws, and tax regulations.
- Experience with HR and payroll software (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, Workday, Paycom, etc.).
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel).
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in Payroll or HR (e.g., CPP, PHR, SHRM-CP).
- Experience with employee benefits administration and HRIS systems.
