Description
Functions as a representative of the Firearm Records Bureau at the Depart me nt of Criminal Justice Information Services. Responsible for the preparation and processing of non-resident firearms applications; assists in the dissemination of firearm licensing and Massachusetts firearm law information from law enforce me nt and the general public; performs related work as required.
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.*
II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

Description

- Assist licensees with the creation of accounts and account maintenance on the MIRCS licensing Portal.
- Monitor and maintain MIRCS serial number registry.
- Prepare and review incoming non-resident firearms license applications.
- Schedule and complete in-person interviews for non-resident firearms license applications.
- Perform criminal record checks.
- Conduct searches of all appropriate databases for firearm license or transaction information in response to requests from law enforcement agencies and public citizens.
- Review criminal record checks of licenses for conformance to state and federal laws.
- Perform related duties such as data entry; typing material; operating electronic data systems and applications containing various records and files; and assuring accuracy.
- Assist law enforcement agencies and the public by providing information about firearms licensing and firearms law in Massachusetts.
- Provide support of the Massachusetts Instant Record Check System (MIRCS) to local law enforcement agencies and firearms dealers.
- Review and activation of MIRCS licenses.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of the Firearms Records Bureau.
