As a Reactor Operations Engineer or Scientist, you will ensure that the NRC's oversight of power reactors is effective, accurate, and credible through the inspection program and policy development, coordination, implementation, assessment, and enhancement. Activities include reviewing and assisting in the development of oversight processes, policy, and guidance; evaluating the implementation of the Reactor Oversight Process at headquarters and the regional offices, and obtaining feedback on the impact of NRC activities. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in activities related to the management of the Reactor Oversight Process, with an emphasis on improving knowledge of key safety and risk aspects related to inspections and assessment activities.
  • Provide project management support of assessment activities, to include compiling information from program leads to report on program effectiveness.
  • Assist in the development of inspection procedures and related program guidance for NRC inspections of nuclear power facilities.
  • Identify and promptly communicate concerns about reactor safety and regulatory burden as they become known.
  • Provide input to public and Congressional inquiries regarding assigned areas of responsibility and NRC activities.
  • Participate in public meetings and discussions, and contribute to technical briefings to NRC management.
  • Provide headquarters support for regional inspections, notifying supervisor of any reactor safety concerns.
  • Participate in task forces to develop new (or changed) concepts related to the reactor inspection program.
  • Provide input to estimates of resources that are needed to perform all elements of the assigned program, whether established or under development.
  • Represent the branch on technical working groups and provide independent input on related matters.
  • Manage contracts, to include allocating and tracking resources for reactor inspection and oversight programs.
