The duties of the Staff Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as an organizational lead in the management and execution of management and execution of multiple high-level organizational initiatives.
  • Performs analytical, qualitative, and administrative functions.
  • Provides substantive management or program evaluation work.
  • Manages, develops, and maintains effective office systems, processes, procedures and communications.
  • Prepares materials for briefings and other presentations, determining informationt to be presented and appropriate formats.
  • Researches and analyzes decision papers on operational issues.
  • Develops and executes work in support of system-wide projects, conferences, and meetings.
  • Establishes and maintains electronic and manual filing systems to enable easy retrieval of all documents and correspondence coming to the office.
  • Coordination of liaison activities relative to all administrative and operational aspects of the office and other VHA units.
  • Exercises judgement and flexibility in determining the approach, methods, and prioritization of project completions.
  • Represents the Office of the ADUSH at internal and external meetings on a broad range of issues.
  • Manages schedules, agendas, and action items for key groups.
  • Coordinates information gathering, discusses issues and possible solutions, solicits feedback, presents findings, coordinates programs or activities, schedules meetings and develops agendas.
  • Designs suspense systems for items requiring follow-up and to assure timely replies.
  • Performs analytical and evaluative work associated with program activities as in developing operational efficiencies, reducing redundancy, and improving quality and services.
  • Analyzes and integrates program financial technical, procurement, and scheduling information.
  • Utilizes knowledge of office functions and priorities in order to independently manage the meeting schedules in alignment with the Office's priorities.
  • Serves as a communication liaison with persons and groups within and outside of the office with the authority to speak on behalf of any of the Directors regarding meeting schedules and other administrative issues.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
