Major Duties:
- Provide leadership and direction for the following DC VAMC programs to include: Inpatient Care, Primary Care, Outpatient Care, Mental Health, Homeless Veteran Care and Geriatrics, Hospice, and Long-Term Care.
- Must possess a clinical knowledge that provides the ability to manage these programs, specifically with regard to customer satisfaction, quality of services provided, and efficiency of service delivery.
- Must possess significant scope, and complexity with both administrative and professional practice duties.
- Managing and supervising of all aspects of social work service operations to include program management, education, human resource management supervision and organizational stewardship for the social work program.
- Planning, organizing, developing implementing, controlling, and refining a comprehensive patient management/clinical support/administrative program which provides and technical counsel necessary to meet clinical, procedural, legal and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patients to achieve maximum utilization of patient care resources in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner.
- Develops and administers a formal, systematic performance plan for reviewing, appraising and continuously improving each phase of clinical/clinical support/administrative activity.
- Responsible for assuring that services provided by this medical center meet the standards set by accrediting agencies which govern the quality of care for this medical center, to include, but not limited to Joint Commission, the OIG, etc.
- Works to assure that any issues and deficiencies are corrected according to standards in conjunction with other Service Chiefs, and Peer Review Committee.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills in interpersonal relations, especially the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers.
- Responsible for staffing, work assignments, budget, services provided, program criteria, day-to-day program operations, and all reporting requirements.
- Preforms collateral assignments, determined by the needs of the local facility.
- Provide analysis and evaluation of program data and computerized programs to identify system-wide trends and needs to enhance the quality of service.
- Assists in management of the formulation of the medical center budget, including allocation of funds and recommendations to top management regarding staffing requirements, cost effective technological advances, equipment, projects, and supplies. These budgetary recommendations are based on statistics, evidenced based practices and projections which indicate patient workload trends, and knowledge of VISN-wide goals and objectives for program development and management.
- Developing and implementing a viable, cost-effective organization which manages positions within FTEE and budget.
- Responsible for personnel actions involving key subordinates and is responsible for effective labor/employee relations by coordinating with Human Resources.
- Identifying training needs for subordinate employees, for ensuring the competency of staff for their selected positions.
- Ensuring that services delivered are consistent with customer service needs and standards.
- The operation of this medical center includes educational affiliations with George Washington University and other outside entities. Must work closely with these entities in providing residents and trainees with the staff support necessary to integrate them into the DCVAMC organization and its patient care programs. Sets guidelines or assists in decision making to resolve any issues which arise with these affiliations.
- Provide coverage for inpatient and outpatient care commensurate with his/her time and area of specialization, providing direct patient care.
- Responsible for a service that provides diverse services to Veterans , families and caregivers. Services include multiple specialty care programs and VA Centers of Excellence that are highly technical and complex across the continuum of care. Services may be delivered at VA sites spanning a large geographic area.
- Responsible to the assigned rating and approving supervisors and is accountable to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS).
- Providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the setting.
- Assist in directing the provision of nursing education/orientation/competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.
- Provide administrative supervision and general instruction, plans and assigns work, assigns time schedules, approves leave and completes performance evaluations.
