As an Interdisciplinary General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will:
- Oversee SLAC Office safety systems to ensure that they perform as required by the approved safety basis and other applicable requirements.
- Routinely perform assessments, investigations, walkthroughs and surveillances to confirm performance of safety systems in meeting established safety and mission requirements.
- Perform evaluations of troubleshooting activities, investigations, and root cause analyses, tracking and trending of accidents, injuries and near misses, and selection and implementation of corrective actions.
- Advise on structural safety requirements based on failure mode analysis of such factors as fatigue, stability, stress concentration and creep.
- Review the design of protective equipment or safety devices for machines and redesign of machines and plant equipment to eliminate occupational and radiological hazards.
- Develop and apply methods for the safe installation and operation of storage and piping systems for compressed gases and other hazardous materials.
