Overview

This position is responsible for music at all liturgical and non-liturgical celebrations; the training, development, and preparation of cantors, musicians and choir members; and all administrative functions associated with the position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Selects music for all liturgical activities Accompanies preferably with organ or piano
  • Recruits, trains, and rehearses cantors, musicians and choir members, both adult and youth
  • Prepares and is responsible for Music budget
  • Coordinates music and normally acts as accompanist for funerals and weddings
  • Teaches new music, hymnody, popular liturgical songs, and contemporary "praise and worship" selections, according to Church liturgical guidelines and norms
  • Continues own personal growth and learning in the area of sacred music and creates new ways to implement that learning within the parish
  • Demonstrates a passion for and love of liturgical music and works to instill that in the music ministers and parish community
  • Works with staff to coordinate liturgy and rehearsal schedules, bulletin music pages and announcements, publicity, etc.
  • Maintains organized and updated music files
  • Provides accurate copyright information and coordinates all financial responsibilities
  • Organizes and maintains all equipment used by musicians including but not limited to organ, piano, microphones, stands, sound system
  • Performs any other duties as directed by the Pastor
  • Masters Degree in Music or related field OR Bachelors degree with 15+ years of experience in lieu of Masters degree
  • Must be a practicing Catholic
  • Experience with liturgical music in a parish setting
  • Proficiency in organ, piano (voice preferred but not required)
  • Personal maturity and flexibility, an appreciation for the path of discipleship, commitment to assisting the faithful to grow in understanding and appreciation for the Sacred Liturgy and sacred music
