Our client, a manufacturer headquartered in Greater Birmingham AL, is seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of products and procedures through rigorous inspections, implementation of quality control measures, and identification of areas for improvement.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality issues, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to building high-quality products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in engineering or quality assurance, exceptional attention to detail, and a can-do mindset.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Determine quality metrics for manufacturing procedures.
  • Monitor the production cycle and perform regular tests to identify potential malfunctions.
  • Inspect product materials and electrical systems for defects and durability.
  • Update the Quality Management System (QMS) with incidents, fixes and improvements.
  • Audit systems based on ISO 9001-2015 registered, or equivalently certified QMS.
  • Lead and participate in the Internal Audit program to monitor and evaluate processes used in manufacturing.
  • Lead and identify the root cause of technical issues and recommend fixes using 5 Why's, Fishbone, A3, 8D, and DMAIC process.
  • Support Purchasing / Engineering in supplier development/qualification and audits.
  • Management of Production Part Approval Process.
  • Management of calibration systems, tooling, and instrumentation.
  • Prepare reports on malfunctions and corrective actions using 5s.
  • Lead CI events and develop and track KPI’s.
  • Set and track quality assurance goals (e.g. reduce average turnaround time of quality checks).
  • Coordinate with external quality assurance auditors and technicians to ensure legal compliance.
  • Work with internal teams to increase customer satisfaction by improving product quality.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or relevant experience.
  • Supplier Quality Control work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in developing and enforcing formalized metrics and reporting processes.
  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • In-depth understanding of testing methodologies and technical documentation.
  • Experience writing, and revising procedures, work instructions, forms, visual aids, etc.
  • Effective in a customer and supplier facing communications and issue resolution situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a production environment.
  • Ability to review blueprints and quality documentation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project.
  • Ability to travel 25%
