- This position also has overall responsibility for establishing and maintaining managerial controls on the use of Institute funds, human capital, and other resources, as required by statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- This position is the focal point for interactions with the Director, NIH, the Assistant Secretary for Health, the Surgeon General, other Federal government agencies, Congress, and non-Federal organizations
- The NHLBI has an annual budget of approximately $4.0 billion and a staff of approximately 940 federal employees, in addition to approximately 450 employees in non-federal status
