COMPENSATION: $74,680.58/year + DOE, Benefits, Exempt Position

Summary Of Position
The Public Services Librarian is responsible for providing assistance to students and patrons through professional reference and readers advisory work and designing, planning and implementing programs and outreach services that best reflect the community, cultural diversity, and needs of youth.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee current programs and services, which include Storytime, Crafternoon and Summer Reading Program.
- Oversee the children and teen room and maintain attractive appearance.
- Creates displays to promote library use.
- Supervises Library Technician and temporary staff.
- Provides assistance, training and advice on productive workflow, proactive collaboration, and consistent communication.
- Hosts monthly meetings with village staff to discuss library issues, activities, statistics and more.
- Oversees the front desk operations, including hiring, training and scheduling of temporary staff.
- Oversee public library collection and circulation projects such as collection inventory, patron accounts, periodicals, and statistics.
- Assists with collection development and maintenance including selection, acquisition, and de-selection of library materials.
- Build relationships and collaborate with schools, community organizations, government agencies, and other groups to provide library outreach programs and services that meet community needs.
- Evaluates library programs and outreach events for relevancy and impact to encourage lifelong learning, community connection, and greater use of the library.
- Collaborates with staff and community partners to plan, publicize, and present library programs and outreach.
- Manages program budgets, compiles statistics, prepares reports, and keeps records of activities.
- May be responsible for library oversight in absence of Director of Library Services.
- May travel to village libraries, and attend professional development training and library conferences.
- Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of library services, systems, procedures and ethics.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated proficient oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of current issues affecting library services, including youth and children.
- Knowledge of information resources, professional library tools, reference and searching skills.
- Ability to manage emotions in the workplace and maintain professional composure and judgement.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with community organizations, and other libraries.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers and library patrons.
- Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement and discretion in performance of duties.
- Demonstrated experience with automated library systems, OCLC, and Internet resources.
- Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated stable employment history.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
- Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
- Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
- Ability to support Iisavik Colleges mission.
- Masters degree in Library Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
- 3-5 years experience as a professional librarian
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge in Alaska Native or Native American library services.
- Bilingual speaking skill in English and Iupiaq.
- Valid drivers license.
